Additional Details

A rare and, perhaps, unique photograph by Mieth; we have not located another print of this image.

During the time that the Farm Security Administration (FSA) sent photographers into the field, another governmental organization, the C.C.C. (Camp/Civilian Conservation Corp.), also documented rural regions in economic decline. The height of this project was 1937-1938 , the period when Mieth made this photograph -- likely for LIFE magazine, for which she produced many important picture stories.
